This British and Irish Orthoptic Society (BIOS) report outlines the potential benefits to patients and hospital care pathways of enabling orthoptists to prescribe spectacles within the Hospital Eye Service (HES). Currently, this aspect of care is restricted under the Opticians Act 1989.
