Hazel has Monocular Elevation Deficiency, meaning she is unable to raise one eye.

Orthoptists have been able to monitor Hazel’s vision since she was diagnosed as a baby, offering timely advice and treatment, including patching and glasses.

After a visit to an optician, Mahmoud was referred to an orthoptist for treatment of double vision.

Roman was referred into a hospital eye service following school vision screening and was diagnosed with amblyopia, or reduced vision in one eye.

He was prescribed a course of patching, which involves covering the good eye to encourage the weaker eye to work.

Muhammad was referred to an orthoptist due to concerns following an eye infection. He was diagnosed with reduced vision in one eye and treated with patches and glasses.

“If it wasn’t for that school screening, I don’t think we would’ve picked it up as early”

Six-year-old Jasper’s parents had no idea there was anything up with his eyesight until school vision screening picked up that he had low vision in one eye. Jasper has Amblyopia, often referred to as “lazy eye”, which is a condition where the vision in one eye doesn’t develop correctly, leading to uneven vision.
