Request for information from orthoptic colleagues on neuro-ophthalmology services

Orthoptists running a quality improvement project for neuro-ophthalmology at Whipps Cross are reaching out to orthoptic departments to get a better picture of established pathways to support their project.

They are inquiring if your neuro-ophthalmology department has any established guidelines or protocols for managing patients, particularly those with Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) and endocrine-related conditions. Specifically, they are interested in understanding how these patients are seen within the department, and whether they typically see a neuro-ophthalmologist or an orthoptist virtually on the ophthalmologist’s behalf.

Additionally, they would appreciate clarification on the triage process for these patients — who is responsible for triaging the cases before they are seen by a specialist.

Your help would be very much appreciated. Please send any comments and information to: holly.pokora@nhs.net or laura.grant1@nhs.net
