Strabismus & ocular motility
Eye movement recording
The Eye Movement Recording (EMR) stream of the Strabismus and Ocular Motility CAG provides a space for BIOS members with an interest in eye tracking to learn more about its value clinically, to gain resources for developing an extended role in this area and to receive support from other members of the eye tracking community.
Introduction
The eye movement recording (EMR) CAG is available to anyone who has an interest in using eye tracking facility to aid in eye movement assessment clinically. The group is open to any members who are currently using EMR, are interested to learn more about how it can aid them in clinic or are keen to set-up dedicated eye tracking clinics for assessment of complex eye movement cases.
Background
Eye movement recording can be a useful tool for assessing cases of nystagmus, saccadic intrusions and supra-nuclear eye movement disorders which typically can be challenging cases to investigate and diagnose. With ongoing advances in more capable hardware and more user-friendly software, EMR is becoming more accessible to orthoptists.
Aim
The aim of this group is to promote the extended role of EMR for orthoptists and support members with information and resources.
Purpose
- To raise awareness of the value of eye movement recording in clinic.
- To share best practice for its use in eye movement investigation and diagnosis clinically.
- To develop evidence-based care pathways and guidelines to validate its incorporation into orthoptic standards and care.
- To support members in setting up dedicated clinics for using EMR.
- To signpost members to current or emerging literature for EMR use.
- To facilitate communication through the CAG network or forum.
- To encourage training and learning for understanding of eye movement system neurology and pathophysiology.
