Khadija has been given her very first patch. Watch as she follows her special training plan, learning new strategies to develop her super eyes!

Today sees the launch of Super Eyes 2: Patching and your life, our second cartoon supporting children who are patching, this time produced alongside Fight For Sight, NHS R&D North West and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

Our new cartoon follows on from the original Super Eyes cartoon released in June 2025, which told the story of Olivia having the importance of patching explained to her by Oxi the orthoptist.

The new animation follows Khadija, who has been prescribed a patch, as she and her mother learn how best to incorporate it into her life: setting a timer, doing activities together such as reading and colouring, using a patch chart, and discussing her patch with school friends. The cartoon offers advice on making patching more manageable while reassuring children and their grown-ups that patching is worthwhile and effective.

The cartoon is available on the BIOS YouTube channel and on our #WePatch page, alongside tips and resources to support patching and occlusion. To make it accessible to as many people as possible, we’ve released it with subtitles and title cards in six languages: English, Arabic, Cantonese, Polish, Punjabi, and Urdu.

The cartoon is one of the outcomes from research funded by BIOS, Fight for Sight and NHS R&D North West and sponsored by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. The original research project, Addressing Barriers to Amblyopia Therapy, was led by orthoptist Laura England, and sought to identify the barriers to amblyopia treatments and assess whether social deprivation affects orthoptic treatment outcomes. As part of the research, parents shared their experiences of supporting children with patching, with their insights helping to shape the animation.

You can find out more about occlusion therapy, with patches and eye drops, on our #WePatch pages.
