Congratulations to Sri Lankan Kumari Fonseka who studied the MSc course by distance learning from Colombo. She carried out her research project into the effectiveness of Vivid Vision Therapy by recruiting patients attending her own practice.
From the first day in 1988 when Rowena McNamara was recruited to create an orthoptics course tailored for Sri Lanka, and presented at Colombo Eye Hospital, Kumari was her most enthusiastic student. Throughout Rowena’s more than 20 subsequent visits Kumari enjoyed learning new diagnostic techniques and rose to the problem solving challenges involved in managing complicated orthoptic conditions. Kumari has contributed to several international orthoptic conferences, conducting research into her own practice. She has a thriving island-wide orthoptic service and passes on her knowledge and skills in her training school.
