Orthoptist & Family Experience Lead – United States

Default job

Trust: United States

Band/Salary: £75,000 – £82,000

Employment Type: Permanent

Working Hours: Full time (Monday-Friday)

Closing date: 22/06/2026

Job description:

Orthoptist & Family Experience Lead — Confidential Search:
A relationship-centred paediatric ophthalmology practice in the United States, is open to a UK-trained, orthoptist to join a growing team. This is a dual role: full-scope clinical orthoptics paired with a leading voice in how families experience the practice.

About the practice:
The practice has unhurried clinics, and continuity of care with the
same families over time. We see a good number of patients but there is no NHS-style administrative burden.

Core orthoptic work:

  • Assess and manage eye-movement disorders and binocular vision problems as an autonomous practitioner, primarily in children
  • Diagnose and manage squint, amblyopia, and visual-development concerns
  • Work closely with the eye doctors as part of a small, collaborative clinical team
  • Maintain clinical records to the standards expected of a registered orthoptist
  • Contribute to clinical workflow design, equipment selection, and the patient journey experience

The wider remit:
Alongside clinical practice, the post-holder will help by serving as a trusted relationship point of contact for families and helping build the culture of a
thoughtful, warm, mission-driven practice.

Who we are looking for:
Essential: UK-trained orthoptist, confident working with children and families. Equally essential: exceptional warmth, discretion, emotional
perceptiveness, and a genuine wish to help build something rather than simply hold a post. Interest in private practice is a strong advantage.

Important practical notes:
This is a US-based, relocation role. HCPC registration does
not transfer automatically; Eventual US clinical certification (American Orthoptic Council) preferred and a work visa are required. The practice will fully support the successful candidate through relocation, credentialing, and visa sponsorship, and candidates should understand this is a planned transition with its own timeline.

Search status:
The practice details will be disclosed to shortlisted candidates during the
recruitment process.

To express interest:
Email your CV, resume and a note of your interest to
emcwright@berkeley.edu and we will respond promptly.
