As a profession, we are trying to better understand how pre-registration orthoptists feel about making the transition from being a learner to a qualified orthoptist in their first clinical job.
This is so that we can continue to develop resources and recommendations to education providers ,which will help learners prepare for their first orthoptic jobs and feel as well supported as possible to make that step and continue to thrive as orthoptists.
In recent years, there has been a focus on why new graduates may choose to leave a profession within their first few years of practice and there have been developments in preceptorship guidance designed to better support new clinicians in their first roles.
This obviously focuses on support once graduates enter their first jobs, however; as important is the development and support that individuals have as learners in preparing to enter the profession as qualified clinicians referred to as ‘pre-preceptorship’
The survey is aimed at students in their final year of study only. It is also designed to explore how pre-registration orthoptists feel about their ‘work-life preparedness’. It is not designed to explore how you perceive your profession specific theoretical knowledge and clinical skills that you need to become a qualified orthoptist.
Your response to the survey is anonymous and is not specific to any one education provider. and the results will be used to inform future work streams relating to preceptorship and pre-preceptorship. In addition the anonymised results may be used to present at national and international meetings to share our findings with the wider profession and help educate clinicians about how learners feel about making this significant transition.
The Survey will close at mid-day on the 9th May.
Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey! It will provide valuable information for us as a profession to continue to develop resources that will help support our pre-registration learners into the future.
The survey will not take you long so if you have a few minutes, please take the time to complete:
